Mt. Humphreys summit attempt

Thanks for clicking on the link. My name is Pete and I'm a sucker for the outdoors. Mt. Humphreys is my favourite running trail if you can believe it and today (May 23rd, 2026) I'll be attempting 10 consecutive summits up the Humphreys trail. Now you must be thinking, this isn't a running trail and what sort of moron would try this ten times? Well, yeah that's me. I have a lot of history on this mountain. I moved to Flagstaff in 2018 and as an up and coming ultra-runner, I gravitated towards the San Francisco peaks. I soon decided to see if I could summit the mountain 52 times in a year which I accomplished in 2023 after 56 total summits. I've been up in costume multiple times, have clocked over 200 official summits, and if you've ever hiked or run on this trail, there's probably a good chance you've seen me.

After my 56 summits, I decided the next challenge would be to summit the mountain 10 consecutive times. My last attempt didn't go as planned after a rolled ankle and tweaked knee, and so I had to bow out at 5 summits. Well, this weekend just felt right to try again. If you're heading up the trail, make sure to say hello. I'll be the one looking like he's going in circles. I'm not lost, but maybe a little loopy:)

Here are a few pics from my espcapades at 12,000 ft from over the years...

about
Peter mortimer

Peter Mortimer is an ultra runner based in the mountain town of Flagstaff, Arizona. Although Peter dabbled in sports as a teenager, running didn't even come onto his radar until the age of 30. As a means of losing some weight and changing his lifestyle, he joined the Hash House Harriers, "a drinking club, with a running problem" as a way of getting outside and socializing. The running bug bit him hard and within a year he jumped from running 1-2 miles on the pavement to completing his first half marathon. A year after that he completed his first marathon missing the Boston qualifier by mere minutes. It was at that point that he realized his potential...
